Going to School Master Trainers deliver books with a smile

Soon after completing the teacher training sessions last week, our band of master trainers transformed themselves into door-to-door couriers for the Be! Schools program. They traveled to all 70 schools that sent teachers to our training, in every corner of Patna, to hand-deliver cartons of Be! Books. Not only were we excited to get our books to schools, teachers were excited too! Many called our office and urged us to send the books quickly so they could start teaching.

On every single day but one, our messenger-trainers came back from their school visits wringing their shirts dry, assuring us not a single book got wet during delivery! They told us how principals and teachers greeted them with warm cups of ginger tea when they arrived in the pouring rain. We thank all our partners for the great start, and especially the Government of Bihar. They didn’t simply sign a MOU with Going to School but proved to be a well-oiled engine ready for new ideas and their speedy implementation.

This is a very special beginning! As these lines get written in our office space in Patna, the team of trainers in the next room are assigning themselves schools in Patna district that they will visit tomorrow to interact with teachers and students. Tomorrow, Be! Books will make their first entry into the hundreds of classrooms and into the mental universes of children whom we regard as our real partners in the enterprise. There are schools in Patna and elsewhere in Bihar that have as many as 1,200 students in Class 9, so we have a lot of work to do!
